We just wanted to give an update on the community garden, as work has begun again after a bit of a break over winter! Last Autumn we held a work day during the school holidays and lots of people turned up to help. We planted lots of Daffodils & other spring flowers along the bank, so it was a lovely surprise to see them all in flower when we turned up a couple of weeks ago. Rull Orchard also donated some berry cuttings and its great to see that they are in bud now all around the border of the garden. Thanks Claire!!
We are really pleased to report that we were successful with our Section 106 funding application and have been awarded some funding. Thank you so much to everyone who helped support the application by completing our online survey.
The funding means we can now install fencing around the garden to hopefully keep rabbits and deer out. We know that both are present on the field and we cant have a successful vegetable gardens without protection so we are really looking forward to this being installed later this Spring.
We also received money for 2 table & benches which arrived today. It was really lovely to be able to sit in the sunshine on them today and it means we can start planning some events to encourage people to come and visit the garden.
We have been kindly donated a polytunnel frame (thank you Dan & Colleen!!) but it needs a new cover so we also have some money to purchase this, along with some hosepipe so that we can use the IBC water tanks that are already collecting water down there.
We are currently meeting there most Wednesday mornings to get the garden ready for planting so please feel free to come along to take a look or help out. As the weather warms up we hope to move this to an evening in the week so that more people can come along.
We are also hoping to run a childrens gardening club and we will open this up to families in the village to begin with. If its successful and we can get enough volunteers to help, we would love to be able to open this up to more children from school.
If anyone would like to be added to our whats app chat to be more involved with what is happening please message Lauren on 07807087692.
And a reminder that this garden is for anyone to visit so please make the most of it!!!
